We have some amazing feedback on several of our Intentions of the Week.

Maria Salerno – now celebrating sobriety

In March 5th of this year, we carried out a live Intention of the Week for Maria Salerno. As many of you may recall, seven years ago Maria began taking Oxycodone for a backache given to her from a ‘friend’. She began taking them regularly by mouth and then graduated to snorting them.  After discovering she was addicted to them in April 2010, her mother Joanna put her in a six-month rehab.

Her mother takes up the story: “When she got out I thought that was it. She was cured. I was very naive about addiction. She learned how to do drugs in rehab and quickly went to shooting up Oxy and her new drug of choice Dilaudid and then on to heroin.

“She has been in and out of rehab since then, only able to stay clean for short amounts of time. She is what is known as a chronic relapser. She has become so jaded about treatment, because as she says it hasn’t worked for her.”

We sent intention on a live Facebook broadcast for Maria to be free of her drug dependence – for which she was incredibly grateful.

Four days later, Joanna wrote me:  Yesterday out of the blue I received a phone call from Maria telling me that she was pulling into a detox facility.
Now that in itself is nothing new. What is new is that I had no idea beforehand, as typically I’m the one who helps her find the place and make the arrangements, and her insurance approved a place that they have never approved before and it has a stellar reputation. I asked Maria how long she would be there (the typical time for detox is 5-7 days) and she said that the minimum is two weeks, and she was hoping that her insurance would approve 30 days!!   That is a very different response than I usually get from her. I am hopeful that the power of the intention is continuing to manifest in Maria’s life,” she said.

Now, eight months later, Joanna wrote me again.  Here’s her latest letter:

“I felt called to report back what has happened since the intention that you did live on FB for my daughter Maria.

“After the experiment things with her got better than suddenly took a turn for the worse, and I wondered if the experiment had any impact at all. All of March and April were so filled with the chaos and drama that one would expect from a person in active addiction, except MY response was different. I was able to observe and hold space in a new way, even though things seemed worse than ever before I had the sense that it was all purposeful. And it was!!!

“In May Maria entered another detox center and then went on to a three-month rehab program. She graduated from that program in September and now has just celebrated six months of sobriety from heroin!!!  This is the longest sober time she has had since she began her journey with drugs seven years ago!  Do I think the Intention Experiment worked??? I absolutely believe that it did! Not only with Maria but with me, and the peace that I was given to draw upon.

“I know that it is still early days yet, however I have confidence that Maria will continue to get stronger in her recovery and be able to live a whole and healthy life. I just wanted to thank you and all who participated in the prayers and intentions for Maria!”

“Update on Peter,” Donna wrote us this week.  “Peter had chemo this week and on all previous treatments he was very sick for days. That did not happen this time!!!!!!

“Thanks so much!!!!!”
